Patients’ Family Handout

First page of the document

Families involved with a Developmental Coordination Disorder research group voiced the need to for a short and clear primer document they could reference when supporting one another and advocating for care. The researchers listened and reached out to us to help them design a handout that was clear and useful.

The Process

Together, we reviewed the various components of their communication strategy (goal, audience, message, tone, dissemination strategy) and made sure they were in alignment.

List of the goal, strategy, audience and other factors taken into consideration when designing the document.

We reviewed their content and suggested reorganizing it from a reader-centric point of view (i.e. what information is the reader looking to find, how are they hoping to use this information, etc.) and increasing the navigationabily and skimmability of the document. Namely, I suggested reorganizing the information, modify some of the text and suggested additional content.

After the researchers’ approval of the reorganization of the information of the document we proceeded to design the final document. We also created custom illustrations to better help convey psycho-social toll of DCD, especially when not diagnosed.
